Whilst it can produce short term results for your business' website, your website faces penalties in terms of rankings - and even complete removal from the search engines - if these underhand techniques are discovered. Some companies will promise to get your website either to the number one position on the search engine results page, or on to the first page, of a search engine, but this will probably involve the use of bad techniques to temporarily enhance your website's listing in search engines, and will, in all likelihood, not provide a solid, long-term foundation for your business online.
'White hat' search engine optimisation is 'ethical' SEO, which, when undertaken carefully, can produce impressive but stable improvements in your website's ratings.
