What A Week!
It's been quite a week at Peacock Carter!
Lots of new designs have came off the production line (aka Richard): two for existing websites which we manage, which we decided needed a spruce up! The new designs are great, and should make those sites a lot better (i.e. shinier and easier-to-use) than before, but it also means we need to upgrade the framework those sites are running on, to be powered by Toucan CMS. I’ll post another update once I’ve sorted that out.
I’ve been working quite hard at the content side of St Mary’s School, so that the 6th Form courses are online ready for GCSE results day - and that's really coming on a treat, should be ready later this evening!
Toucan has been progressing - the 'front end' is pretty much feature complete. I’ve just been working on the back end a little (as it has been neglected).
Secret internal projects have progressed too. At the moment we are focusing on two internal projects, one is my baby and the other is Richard's (mine is better :p) and hopefully, they will both have an early September “beta” launch.
Custom development - I’ve been working quite a bit on custom development lately too, creating a few modifications and components for Invision Power Board, as well as some other custom scripts for other products.
Book Writing
Book writing - I’ve also been working hard on my second book, which focuses on ecommerce (my previous book was on Content Management), and last week I submitted a chapter review for another book, which I have been asked to be a technical reviewer for.
That really was a busy week - and this week will be just as busy! Here is whats on the table:
- Client meeting later today (an hour's drive away, so thats the evening spoken for!).
- Another chapter - I’ve been working hard at another chapter of my book, which I aim to submit within the next two days.
- Internal projects - we love ‘em, got to get ‘em ready for the “beta” launch.
- Invoice chasing - I hate this soooo much, it feels like such a waste of time! I wish everyone paid on time. :(
- Building a new computer. Believe it or not, but my primary PC which I use for my day to day work and development is six years old! I work it hard, normally at anyone time there are 20 windows open (at the moment there are 15 but thats because I’ve been winding down) and normally 30 tabs open in Firefox. I’ve ordered a bunch of parts from Dabs.com to put together as a new machine, this also means I get to take advantage of the native resolution on my 22″ widescreen now!
- Accounting - I want to get my tax return sent off soon, I’ve been delaying it for a long time!
- Potential products: we'’ve got a few things I want to turn into web apps, so I’m going to spend some time this week seeing how viable it is to make them.
I think that is most of what's planned: it’s certainly going to be busy!
